Ladies and Gents in fifth at SCAC Championships

ROCKWALL, Texas – The Centenary men’s and women’s swim teams stand in fifth place after the first two days of competition at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships. The Ladies have compiled a team score of 137 with the gents posting a 105.

Rachel Olson has posted the best finish through the first two days. The senior posted a time of 2:07.21 in the women’s 200-yard individual medley to capture a second place finish. Olson also picked up a fifth place finish in the as part of the 200-yard medley relay along with Ashley Giffen, Chelsea Russell and Michelle Gaubert with a time of 1:50.91.

Russell and Giffen joined Olson in the 200-yard IM with Russell finishing ninth with a time of 2:14.64 and Giffen posting a 2:16.34.

Russell also swam in the 800-yard freestyle relay with Christy Wolterman, Kayla Thornhill and Raquel Candal to post a time of 8:14.19 to finish fifth.

Gaubert added a sixth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.95.

Wolterman claimed an eighth place finish for the Ladies in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:24.60 with teammates Alex Taylor in 13th (5:24.50), Thornhill in 15th (5:31.68) and Candal in 16th (5:35.42).

On the men’s side, the team of Arash Ataei, Austin Butler, Collin Baker and Andrew Borel posted a time of 7:08.85 to finish fifth which stands as the men’s top finish in the two days. Baker added an 11th place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:57.36.

Juan Tapia finished seventh in the men’s 200-yard IM with a time of 1:58.05 leading a group of Gents in the event. Ataei finished 11th (1:58.67) with Erick Norem in 15th (2:02.44) and Kellen Bullock in 16th (2:03.08).

Beau Montgomery recorded an eighth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.73 just ahead of teammate Mitchell Foster’s time of 21.53.

The conference championships continue Friday and Saturday.
