SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary women’s basketball team’s valiant effort wasn’t enough to notch its first win of the season as the Ladies (0-21, 0-12 SCAC) fell 63-55 to the University of Dallas on Friday evening. UD improves to 12-11 and 4-8 in Southern College Athletic Conference action.

Rhonda Martin led all scorers with 16 points while Rebecca Thompson added 12 points and tied for tops on the team with nine rebounds alongside Kayla Ruth who tallied a career-high. Briana Edwards added 10 points off the bench.

The Maroon and White shot 35.6 percent from the field markings its best shooting percentage since Jan. 4 at Hendrix when the team connected on 35.4 percent from the floor. The mark is stands as the second-highest percentage on the season behind 40 percent against Texas-Tyler.

Centenary held the Crusaders to 23.8 percent in the second half and 39.2 in the game.

The Ladies trailed by just three at the half, a UD 9-2 run to open the second stanza pushed the deficit to 45-36 five minutes into the half. The Crusaders grabbed their first double-digit lead of the game with 10 minutes left to play at 50-40. The Ladies responded cutting the lead in half by behind a jumper from Edwards and a three-pointer from Lizzie Moran.

UD extended the lead to double figures a second time grabbing a 58-48 advantage with 2:49 left before reach its largest lead at 60-49 with 1:41 remaining in the game.

Brooke Hagemann paced the Crusaders with 14 points with 11 coming from Christy Allen. The duo also grabbed eight rebounds each to lead the Blue and White.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 15 as the Ladies host Colorado College. Tip is slated for 8 p.m.
