LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Centenary’s Jonathan Blount becomes the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the fourth time this season after his efforts this past week helping the Gents clinch the No. 2 seed in the SCAC Championship.

Blount becomes the fourth player in SCAC history to be named player of the week four times in one season and the first since 2008-09 when Mike Moore of DePauw accomplished the feat. Bryan Egli of Rose-Hulman holds the mark at six during the 1998-99 campaign.

Blount averaged 44.5 points over two games this week including setting Centenary’s single-game scoring record with 53 points against Open Bible College. The senior followed the effort with 36 points in the Gents regular season finale against Austin College.

The Shreveport, La., native shot 58.7 percent from the floor on the week and connected on 40 percent from behind the arc. Blount was also 80 percent from the charity stripe. He averaged 5.0 rebounds including grabbing a season-high eight boards in the win over Austin College.

Blount ranks 11th in program history in scoring with 1,488 points and is closing on the conference’s single-season total of 603 points by Fred Garner of Fisk University.

Centenary faces Southwestern on Friday, Feb. 28 in the first round of the SCAC Championships hosted by Trinity University. Tip is slated for 5 p.m.
