SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Centenary baseball team fell 8-1 on Friday evening at No. 3 Trinity University. The Gents moved to 3-8 on the season while Trinity improved to 9-1 overall.

Centenary’s lone run of the game came in the ninth inning as Michael Schimpf scored a passed ball.

Chris Jones and Aaron Quantanilla each logged two hits in the contest to pace the Maroon and White as the team recorded six hits total.

After four scoreless innings to start the affair, TU plated its first run on a Julian Cronk double that scored Nicholas Jewett. The Tigers a pair of runs two frames later before a Drew Butler grand slam in the eighth secured the victory. Butler’s homer drove in four of the five runs in the inning.

Layton Tromba (1-2) was saddled with his second loss of the season. Tromba tossed 6.1 innings allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts. Taylor Henry logged an inning of work on the mound allowing five runs on three hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout. Trey Lavespere tossed the final two-thirds to close things down the hurlers.

Ryan Gray picked up his victory of the season tossing 7.1 innings of scoreless baseball while fanning eight and allowing just five hits.

Centenary returns to action Saturday, March 1 as the Gents face Trinity in a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
