Men's Golf wins CBU Spring Invitational; Gibson takes top medalist honors

BARTLETT, Tenn. – The Centenary men’s golf team won the Christian Brothers University Spring Invitational with two-day score of 584. Jamie Gibson led the Gents with a score of 145 for the two-day event en route to taking top individual honors.

Gibson shot a 70 during the opening round and followed with a 75 on the second to out-swing CBU’s Mitchell Bennett and Carter Billingsley by one stroke. Gibson becomes the first, individual winner this season for the Maroon and White.

Hank Strickler and Jesper Thorsoe finished in a multiple player tie for fourth. The duo shot identical scores of 72 and 75 for the two rounds to finish with a score of 147 – just two strokes back of Gibson in first.

Larry Balthazer finished tied for 11th for Centenary. Balthazer shot a 75 in the opening round and improved his score by two strokes in the final round to secure a two-day score of 148.

Reese Chance rounded out the Gents grouping with a score of 153 which placed him in a tie for 17th. Chance posted a final round score of 72 improving his opening day score by nine strokes.

The team victory comes over a field primarily made up of Division II programs. The host Buccaneers finished behind the Gents in second with a score of 603. West Alabama finished third with a score of 604.

Centenary returns to links on March 24-25 for the Hal Sutton Invitational – hosted by the college at the Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City, La.
