SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary baseball team claimed its second Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series splitting a doubleheader with Southwestern University on Saturday afternoon. The Gents (12-12, 5-1 SCAC) claimed the opener 9-3 before falling 11-6 in the finale.

Christian Sebastien paced the Gents as the plate in the twinbill going 4-for-7 on the day while driving in two runs.

Centenary jumped on the board early and often in the opener scoring all nine runs in the first four innings of the seven inning affair. Chris Jones drove in the first run of the outing with a triple down the right field line to plate Taylor Reed. Jones later scored on a Marc Martinez sacrifice fly to center to push the lead to 2-0.

Reed and Jones also accounted for the two runs in the second inning recording RBI singles to extend the margin to 4-0. Nic Parrott became the fifth run of the contest scoring on a ground out followed by a Reed walk that pushed Sebastien across the plate.

SU tallied its first two runs in the top of the fourth, but the Gents extended their lead in the bottom of the frame scoring three runs as Parrott and Sebastien each garnered RBI singles. Sebastien marked the final run for the Maroon and White scoring on a Kody Carson sac fly.

The Pirates recorded their final run of the contest in the sixth, but wasn’t enough to rally for the win.

Paul Arcement (3-2) logged the complete game victory for the Gents allowing eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

In the nightcap, Centenary again jumped out early taking a 5-2 lead through the first six innings with a run in the first, fourth and fifth and a pair of runs in the sixth. Aaron Quintanilla, Sebastien and Carson each drove runs during the scoring spurt.

After scratching across its third run in the seventh inning, SU plastered six runs on the board in the eighth to take its first lead of the night. The Pirates added two insurance runs in the ninth before Centenary recorded its final run in the bottom of the frame.

Quintanilla, Parrott and Sebastien each recorded multiple hit efforts in the contest.

Grant Debevec (1-2) took the loss on the hill pitching 1.1 innings in relief allowing three runs on two hits with a strikeout and walk. Gents’ starter Holden Novak tossed 6.0 frames allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and walk.

Centenary returns to action on Tuesday, March 25 as the Gents travel to intra-city foe Louisiana State University-Shreveport. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
