Ladies defeat Louisiana College; Gents drop both weekend outings

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary tennis teams were in action this weekend as the Ladies and Gents hosted Louisiana College on Saturday with the Ladies winning 7-2 and the Gents falling 5-4. The Gents also fell 8-1 at the University of Texas at Dallas on Friday to open the weekend.

Katelyn Alexander and Katie Cornwell and Lauren Beurlot and Celia Sobelman won their doubles matches 8-1 and 8-0 respectively. Cornwell, Ashley McHugh, Nicole Martinez and Katelyn Alexander each won their singles spots in straight sets. Sobelman forced her singles match into three sets before falling 6-4, 4-6, 1-0.

The Gents claimed the second and third doubles matches with the pairings of Andrew Borel and Gabe Zahm and Chris Matthews and Kane Kershaw winning 8-0 and 8-4 respectively. Matthews and Kershaw were also victorious in singles action with Matthews winning 6-0, 6-1 and Kershaw claiming a straight sets victory.

Centenary’s lone victory against UTD on Friday came as Anthony McMaster defeated Hrudhay Ravula 6-4, 6-4 in the top singles spot. McMaster and Cameron Bueche fought to an 8-4 setback at the No. 1 doubles spot.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 5 as the Ladies and Gents travel to Austin College.
