GymTalk: Sylvia Keiter

Hello Ladies’ fans!

This is Sylvia Keiter a junior lady (but only for a little while longer!) on this fantastic gym team. Wow, what a season it has been for this team. We’ve accomplished a lot this season and have overcome even more.

We ended our season as a team at Illinois State University at the Midwest Independent Conference championships. We scored our season best of 191.450. On vault we scored our season high with a 48.275 and a 48.30 on bars! Helping us reach those high scores was Stephanie Strickler with one heck of meet! Stephanie rocked it out with an all-around score of 38.900 – her career best! In route to her highest AA ever Steph recorded season-highs on bars 9.725 and beam 9.750. We had so many high scores at this meet; freshman Jordan Anderson (Jo) flipped to her highest floor score of 9.75, Thadd showed how hard she has worked on vault this year coming up with her best vault of 9.55, don’t count out Ascates as she held her own with a 9.675 on bars that she has been working so hard for, senior Christine Langston did the best bar routine of her life to come up with her career high score too!  Robynator anchored the meet with a season best 9.8 on vault.

I feel like this quote describes this team, “The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all”. (Mulan) You could say we went through adversity. Losing 4 athletes that were crucial to this team can definitely put a damper on the year. But we fought hard to fill in spots and compete like champions! I will cherish all of our memories from sweating at 6 am on the track to dancing the night away on the ride home from a meet.

I always hate this time of year because it’s time to say goodbye to our seniors that we have grown so close to. Each one of them brings something different to the table that can never be replaced. They’ll always have a special place in this team’s hearts and we can’t wait to see how they will change the world!

While our team is done competing as a unit, we do have seven incredible Ladies heading to Brown University in Rhode Island to compete at USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals!  These seven Ladies will compete 13 routines in Providence on all four events.  Robyn and Stephanie will represent Centenary in the all-around, Tawnee and Megan Desjardins made it through our entire season without a fall on beam helping them to have the opportunity to compete on beam, myself (Sylvia) and Jordan will get to show off our floor routines at least one more time and Kellie will be barreling down the run way to soar to the skies on vault!

Your Ladies are diligently preparing for the national competition working hard to go out there and show what kind of champions Centenary builds.  We are excited to go to Rhode Island for one more chance to do our best routines of the year!

Until next time Centenary gym fans!
