SEGUIN, Texas – The Centenary baseball team dropped its Saturday doubleheader at Texas Lutheran falling to the Bulldogs 3-0 and 13-3. It marks the first time the Gents (14-17, 7-5 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) have been swept in conference play since the two-game series at Dallas last season.

The Gents’ managed just 15 hits on the afternoon including nine in the first contest of the day, but struggled to push runs across the dish. Michael Schimpf and Chris Jones each logged three hits during the double dip to lead the Maroon and White.

TLU picked up all three of its runs in the opener in the sixth inning as Klaus Bohrmann and Von Wendel each posted RBI singles after Derek Kanas plated the first run with a sacrifice fly. All three, Bulldog runs were unearned.

Schimpf, Jones, and Dakota Brown each tallied multiple hits in the contest.

Paul Arcement (3-3) tossed 5.2 innings in the start. The sophomore allowed five of the Black and Gold’s six hits in the loss while also giving up a walk. Taylor Henry pitched the final one-third of an inning surrendering a walk and a strikeout.

Aaron Aleman (6-1) logged the complete-game win on the bump walking three and grabbing a strikeout.

In the second contest, the two squads fought through five scoreless innings until TLU recorded six runs in the sixth inning on six hits while capitalizing on two Gents’ miscues. Four different Bulldogs logged RBI hits in the frame.

Centenary cut into the lead in the visiting half of the seventh as Nic Parrott put the Maroon and White on the board with a sacrifice fly to center to score Taylor Reed. Christian Sebastien followed with a RBI single that scored Jones while two TLU errors on the play also allowed Aaron Quintanilla to reach home and clip the deficit in half.

TLU responded in the bottom of the inning with seven runs to capture the contest and the series. The Bulldogs used seven hits including a Danny Brauckman three-run, double to left center.

Centenary sent seven hurlers to the bump in the outing. Starter Holden Novak (3-2) took the loss pitching 5.0 frames allowing three runs on four hits with three walks and a strikeout.

Kellen McGriff (4-1) claimed the complete-game victory walking one while allowing six hits.

Centenary returns to action on Friday, Apr. 11 as the Gents host Austin College in the first of six consecutive, SCAC contests at Shehee Stadium First pitch on Friday is slated for 6 p.m.
