SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary baseball team recorded its second Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference sweep of the season taking a doubleheader from Austin College on Saturday afternoon. The Gents (17-17, 10-5 SCAC) posted a 14-5 victory in the opener followed by an 8-1 decision.

Aaron Quintanilla paced Centenary with two, multiple hit performances gathering four hits with four RBI during the twinbill. The freshman posted back-to-back RBI triples during the 13-run, fourth frame in the first game.

Taylor Reed and Marc Martinez each tallied a pair of RBI hits during the double-digit-run inning.

The Maroon and White totaled 15 hits during the contest including multi-hit efforts from Michael Schimpf, Nic Parrott and Dakota Brown’s team-leading, three-hit performance. Schimpf, Reed and Martinez each registered multiple RBI.

Taylor Henry (5-3) claimed the win pitching 2.1 innings allowing a run on four hits. Layton Tromba tossed 3.2 frames in the start giving up four runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Trey Guccione also recorded an inning on the bump.

The ‘Roos led 4-1 after the top of the fourth, but the Gents’ big inning tilted the contest in their favor the remainder of the way. AC added its only other run in the sixth.

Josh Lewis (1-8) took the loss on the bump allowing six runs on five hits in 3.1 innings. Lewis walked six and struck out one.

In the second outing, Centenary jumped on the board first scoring two runs off a two-run, triple from Martinez in the fourth. After the ‘Roos cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth, the Gents responded with two more runs in the fifth as Jones drove in a pair to increase the lead to 4-1.

Centenary added two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings as Schimpf, Reed and Greg Monnette each tallied RBI. Parrott provided the final run of the contest scoring on a passed ball in the eighth.

Jones and Quintanilla garnered two hits each in the outing to lead the Gents.

Holden Novak (4-2) registered the win pitching 7.2 innings in the start. Novak gave up the lone AC run on five hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Devin Bench (2) picked up the save pitching 1.1 innings and walking one batter.

Brett Moody (0-4) received the loss surrendering six runs on eight hits. Moody struck out four in the 7.0 innings of work.

Centenary returns to action on Friday, Apr. 18 as the Gents host Trinity University in the first of a three-game series. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
