Quintanilla named SCAC Freshman of the Year; Gents place six on All-SCAC First Team

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Centenary baseball team placed six players on the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team headlined by Aaron Quintanilla being named Freshman of the Year in the league. The Maroon and White also placed three members on the honorable mention list.

Quintanilla, a unanimous First Team All-SCAC selection at shortstop, leads all first-year conference players and is ranked in the top 10 among all players in hitting (.377), on-base percentage (.466) and stolen bases (17). The Houston, Texas, native is also fourth in the league in triples (3) and walks (21) and eighth in both hits (46) and RBI (26). Quintanilla received five votes of the seven votes in the SCAC Freshman of the Year balloting.

Joining Quintanilla on the first team was catcher Dakota Brown, third baseman Michael Schimpf, outfielders Nic Parrott and Chris Jones and pitcher Layton Tromba. Centenary’s honorable mention nods went to pitchers Paul Arcement and Holden Novak along with outfielder Christian Sebastien.

Selection for the annual awards and the all-conference team is done by the conference’s seven head coaches.
