Jones, Quintanilla named to ABCA All-West Region Team

SHREVEPORT, La. – Centenary’s Aaron Quintanilla and Chris Jones were named to the 51-member, American Baseball Coaches’ Association All-West Region Third Team on Tuesday afternoon. The team was selected by a vote from the region’s head coaches.

The Gents’ duo finished ranked among the leaders in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and was ranked among the top five on the team in nine offensive categories. The pair tied for fourth in the conference in triples with three and both ranked among the top five in the SCAC in batting average with Jones in third with a .374 and Quintanilla posting a .361 in fifth.

Jones, a native from Decatur, Ga., led the SCAC in hits with 58 and was sixth in RBI with 29. Houston, Texas, product, Quintanilla led Centenary with 31 RBI which was fifth in the conference. His 22 walks were tied for fourth the SCAC while his 48 hits were tied for second the team (12th in the SCAC).

Jones and Quintanilla, who were two of four players from the conference named to the team, were both named to the All-SCAC First Team following their first season in the Maroon and White. Quintanilla was also tabbed SCAC Freshman of the Year.

Centenary finished third in the SCAC with an 11-7 record in conference play and 19-22 overall.
