Gents announce 2014 soccer schedule

SHREVEPORT, La. – A mixture of contests make up the 20-game, 2014 Centenary men’s soccer schedule as the Gents host 10 outings at Mayo Field with 10 outings away from the home turf this season. Included in the mix are 13 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference affairs.

“I really look forward to playing a home and away series with our conference opponents, as many conferences play just a single game against each conference opponent,” said first-year head coach Emmett Rutkowski. “I believe it gives each team a level playing ground for the regular season that enhances the competitiveness for the conference tournament seeding.  I am excited about the non-conference schedule and I know we look forward to competing this season.”

The top half of the Maroon and White’s slate is road heavy as six of the first seven outings are away from Mayo Field including contests against LeTourneau (Aug. 29) and East Texas Baptist (Aug. 30) to open the season. The Gents lone home outing during the opening stretch comes on Sept. 6 against Howard Payne.

Following the home affair, Centenary returns to the road for four straight matches including the conference opener at Texas Lutheran on Sept. 19. The Gents welcome Dallas on Sept. 26 in the first, home conference match followed with Austin College on Sept. 28.

Centenary closes out the season with seven of its final nine contests at home. A midweek match against Hendrix closes out a three-game homestand, which features SCAC outings against Trinity and Southwestern, before a four-game stint concludes the regular season. A non-conference match at Louisiana College begins the stand with outings against TLU, Schreiner and Colorado College round out the span.

The SCAC Championships are slated for Nov. 7-9 at a site to be determined.
