Joplin named head cross country and assistant swimming coach

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary Department of Athletics and Director of Athletics and Wellness Ronda Seagraves announces the hiring of Kyle Joplin as the head men’s and women’s cross country coach and assistant men’s and women’s swimming coach, effective August 1st.

“We are excited to have Kyle join the Centenary family,” stated Seagraves. “I believe that his experience with cross country and swimming will be beneficial to our swimming and cross country programs. Kyle has worked with numerous athletes at different levels and that expertise should translate well to our Ladies and Gents. I look forward to working with Kyle as he leads our cross country program and assists in the development of our swimmers.”

Joplin comes to Centenary after serving as the owner of Runner’s High in his hometown of Hattiesburg, Miss., where he oversaw the day-to-day duties responsibilities of the store and also coached the men’s and women’s racing teams which included developing training plans and coaching group workouts. During his time with Runner’s High, he also served as head coach for YMCA Hub Fins Masters Swim Team.

“I am excited about being selected as the new head coach of men's and women's cross country and assistant coach of the swim team,” said Joplin. “I am looking forward to working with student-athletes who strive for excellence in both academics and athletics.  I want to thank Ronda Seagraves and the rest of the athletics staff for giving me the opportunity to be a part of Centenary College.”

Prior to moving back to the Magnolia State, the Auburn University graduate worked in Virginia for three years including stops as the Assistant Director of Competitive Swimming at the Waynesboro YMCA and the swim and triathlon coach for the Atlantic Coast Athletic Center in Charlottesville, Va.

Following the completion of his degrees in Finance and Economics in 2008, Joplin worked two years at Fleet Feet in Huntsville, Ala.

In his coaching career, Joplin has mentored a top 25 finisher at the USA Track and Field Cross Country National Championships, a USA Swimming Silver Medal Club in the Shenandoah Marlins Aquatics Club, a world record holder in masters swimming and numerous top 10 national swimmers.
