SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary Department of Athletics and Director of Athletics and Wellness Ronda Seagraves announces the hiring of Jeffery Herr as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach. Herr takes over for Greg Owens who coached the squads during the 2014 season.

“I am excited about the addition of Jeffery Herr to our staff. He brings a tremendous teaching background and player development to our men’s and women’s programs,” said Seagraves. “His experience will be instrumental in our goal to recruit strong student-athletes and improve our team’s competiveness.”

A club tennis veteran, Herr takes over the program after serving as the Director of Tennis at the Beaumont Country Club for 30 years. Prior to his stint in Beaumont, Herr served in various capacities at the Sul Ross Tennis Center for four years including the Associate Professional, Head Professional and Director of the tennis program.

“I’m blessed to have this opportunity and work with the kids,” Herr said. “I want to do the best for the players and grow the game for them. I look at this as a service. I want to help them grow not only in tennis, but life where they are not only better players, but better people.”

A 36-year member of the United States Professional Tennis Association serving as tournament director, Herr is a 1972 graduate of San Jose State University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Social Science at SJSU where he was a member of the tennis team.
