SHERMAN, Texas – The Centenary volleyball team split a pair of five-set contests to close out the Austin College Invitational. The Ladies (2-2) rallied back with a 3-2 win over Huston-Tillotson after dropping a 3-2 decision against Sul Ross State in the opener.

For the second straight day, Rachel Perkins paced the Maroon and White in kills with 24. Lindsey Long joined Perkins with 20-plus kills adding 21 over the two contests. Desiree Frey and Christina NeSmith each added double-digit kills with 13 from Frey and NeSmith supplying 10. Allison Lazewski dished out a total of 65 assists.

Defensively, a total of six Ladies posted double figures in digs, including three with 20-plus digs. Long led the team with 27 with Frey grabbing 25. Haley Cubberly rounded out the trio with 22 digs.

After exchanging sets against HTU, Centenary posted a 15-7 win in the final set to secure the victory and force the split for the day. The Ladies claimed the first and third sets (25-22, 25-23) HTU answered with wins in the second and fourth sets (25-17, 25-13).

Perkins and Long supplied double-digit kills with 13 and 12 respectively in the match. Lazewski posted 30 assists. Cubberly led with 15 digs while Long added 12 and 10 from Frey.

In the opener, the Ladies took two of the first three sets, but weren’t able to close out the match as SRSU claimed the fourth set 25-18 to force the match into the final frame and recording the win with a 15-5 victory.

Perkins led the squad with 11 kills while Frey added 10. Lazewski dished out 35 assists in the five-setter. Chelsea Petska paced the squad with 17 digs in contest. Long and Frey added 15 each to close out the match.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 6 as the Ladies travel to Memphis, Tenn., for three matches at the Rhodes University Tournament. Centenary opens at 3 p.m. against the home-standing Lynx and concludes the opening day against Fontbonne at 5 p.m.
