Gents ninth after first day of Rhodes Collegiate

TUNICA, Miss. – The Centenary men’s golf team shot a 311 in the opening day of the Rhodes Collegiate Fall Classic to sit in ninth heading into the final round on Tuesday.  The first day score placed the Gents back five strokes of the top five.

Jamie Gibson paced the Maroon and White after the first day shooting a 74 to finish tied for 14th. Larry Balthazar sits two strokes back of Gibson in a tie for 23rd. Hank Strickler shot a 78 in the opening round to sit tied for 36th.

Reese Chance and Graham Maxwell rounded out Centenary in the first round. Chance shot an 83 to sit tied for 81st with Maxwell in 97th with an opening round score of 91.

Rhodes led after the first round with a team score of 295 followed by Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference members Texas Lutheran and Southwestern University each shooting 298 in a tie for second.

TLU’s Taner Zimmerhanzel  and Rhodes’ Chris Harris sit atop the individual leaderboard as they each posted a opening day score of 70 – two shots under par. Centre College’s Grant Blevins, Southwestern’s Jordan Cowart and TLU’s Tyler Kolb are tied for third with a 72 along with UT-Tyler’s George Toone, who is competing as an individual.

Centenary returns to the links on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 8:30 a.m. for the final round of the Rhodes Collegiate.
