Centenary finishes ninth at Rhodes Collegiate

TUNICA, Miss. – The Centenary men’s golf team placed ninth at the Rhodes Collegiate on Tuesday with a two-day score of 616. The Gents shot a 305 in the final rounds besting their first day score by six strokes.

Jamie Gibson led the Maroon and White with a 147 to finish tied for 13th for the two days. Gibson shot a 73 on the final day beating his first round score by a stroke. Hank Strickler finished five strokes back of Gibson after shooting a 74 in the final round. Strickler finished tied for 28th overall.

Larry Balthazar shot a two-round score of 158 after shooting an 82 in the final round. Balthazar finished tied for 64th. Reese Chance finished a stroke back of Balthazar after improving his first round score seven strokes. Chance’s final round score of 76 placed him in 67th. Graham Maxwell rounded out the group with a 175 after shooting an 84 in the final and finishing 97th.

The University of Texas at Tyler claimed the team title as the Patriots fired a 284 in the final round to post a two-day score of 583 and surpass Rhodes College, Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University which led after the first day. Southwestern finished second with a 588 with TLU in third with a 590. The host Lynx dropped from first to fourth with a 598.

Chris Harris from Rhodes and UT-Tyler’s George Toone each shot a 143 for the two days to finish atop the individual leaderboards.

Centenary returns to the links on Monday, Sept. 29 as the Gents take part in the UT-Tyler Tournament.
