Gibson, Chance tied for eighth; Gents tied for fifth at Al Jones Jr. Memorial Tournament

TYLER, Texas – The Centenary men’s golf team shot a 299 to open the first round of the Al Jones Jr. Memorial Tournament placing the Maroon and White in a tie for fifth with Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Jamie Gibson and Reese Chance paced the Gents as each posted an opening round score of 73. The duo sit just two strokes back of second place following the first round.

Larry Balthazar shot a 75 in the first round and sits tied for 25th overall. Cory Costanza finished three strokes back of Balthazar and is 38th after the opening round while Hank Strickler shot an 81 and is tied for 47th.

UT-Tyler leads with a 285 in the opening round as Buddy Hallman paced the Patriots with a 66 in the opening round.

Centenary returns to the links on Tuesday, Sept. 30 to conclude the tournament.
