Wright tops the leader board at 'Southern Shootout; Ladies seventh

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Centenary’s Jamie Wright sits atop the leader board after the first round of action at the Birmingham Southern hosted ‘Southern Shootout. The Ladies stand seventh overall after the opening day.

Wright posted a 68 to sit two shots under par on the opening day. The opening day round score is the best of the season for the reigning Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week and stands one stroke better of Madison Alexander of Lee University in second place. Candice Lindeque from the University of the Cumberlands is third with a even-par 70.

Taylor Thompson shot an 85 in the opening round to stand tied for 23rd with Gabrielle Ford in 32nd with an opening round score of 95. Haley Nidey is two spots back of Ford after registering a 108 in the first round. Toni Collaro wraps up the Maroon and White’s team score with a 117 and in 35th.

The Cumberlands stand along the top for team honors with a 289 for the day. Lee University is six strokes back in second with Jackson State University in third with a 321.

The Ladies return to the links on Monday as they wrap up the ‘Southern Shootout.
