Wright finishes second at BSC 'Southern Shootout; Ladies place sixth

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Centenary’s Jamie Wright finished second at the Birmingham Southern College ‘Southern Shootout with a two-day score of 136 to lead the Ladies golf team to a sixth place finish at Highland Park Golf Course.

Wright posted an identical 68 in the final round to match her opening day score. The 68 is her lowest round this season with the 136 besting her previous mark of 161 at the Al Jones Jr. Memorial Tournament in Tyler, Texas last weekend.

The Alexandria, La., junior finished two strokes back of Madison Alexander from Lee University who claimed the individual title with a 134 for the Shootout. Candice Lindeque from the University of the Cumberlands finished third with a 141.

Taylor Thompson shot a 77 in the final round bettering her opening day score of 85 to finish tied for 17th with a 162. Gabrielle Ford shot a 91 in the final round to finish 31st with a 186. Haley Nidey improved her first round score by six strokes with a 102 on the final day to finish 34th with a two-day score of 210 while Toni Collaro rounded out the group with a 238 for the tournament in 36th.

Centenary finished 18 strokes better than the host Panthers for the tournament.

Lee University claimed the team crown with a 571 with the Cumberlands in second with a 582. Jackson State University took the third spot with a 652.

Centenary returns to action on Monday, Oct. 27 as part of the Abilene Intercollegiate hosted by Hardin Simmons at the Diamondback Golf Club.
