GymTalk: Kellie Slater
Wednesday, October 22, 2014

Hey Ladies Gymnastics fans! Junior, Kellie Slater here (it’s still hard to believe I’m already a junior!) I’m here to tell you the latest news on your favorite gymnastics team J

This past week Centenary was on fall break so most of us had the opportunity to go home and see our families for the first time since we came to school. Everyone was excited for a break from school but we still worked hard on gymnastics and conditioning when we went home. We each created a fall break work out plan to follow while we were at home so that when we got back we would be ready for our first official practice of the year! We all arrived in Shreveport around 2:00 on Sunday expecting that we would have practice at 5:00, but we got an unexpected text from Coach Jackie that said there was a change of plans and to meet at the Gold Dome at 4:30. None of us had any idea what we would be doing, but when we got there Coach Jackie surprised us with a trip to Dixie Farms! Dixie Farms had a big pumpkin patch, corn maze, and many other fun fair attractions that we got to do while we were there. We went on a hayride, barn swing, and huge bouncy trampoline. It was such a fun surprise and great team bonding. Thanks again Pepper Jack! We took lots of pictures so be on the lookout on Facebook!

After our trip to Dixie Farms it was time to get going in the gym. On Sunday we did some conditioning and got a new warm up that we will be doing for the next couple of weeks. On Monday we got back to working on our events and some great things started happening! Senior, Big Syl, caught her blind full to Tkatchev on the first try! Senior, Natalie Humbert along with Juniors, Megan Desjardins and Ronni Bear, made strides on their release moves doing them with less mats behind the bars. Way to go Ladies! All of our hard work during our pre-season is paying off, this team is strong both physically and mentally! I’m so excited to see things coming together in the gym and to have everybody on board with making this the best year ever!

Lastly, I want to say a quick shout out to Stephanie Strickler as she goes in to surgery this Friday. You’re in all of our prayers and we know you’ll be back in action soon. Just remember, if God brings you to it, he’ll bring you through it. J We love you!

Stay tuned for the next gym talk from Megz!
