KERRVILLE, Texas – The Centenary volleyball team dropped three decisions in the Schreiner University Fall Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Ladies fell in five sets to the host Mountaineers to open play before dropping straight sets outings against McMurry and the University of the Southwest.

In the opener, Centenary took a 2-1 advantage following back-to-back victories in the second and third set (25-15, 25-21), but were forced to a fifth set following a 25-18 win by SU. The homestanind Mountaineers closed out the match with a narrow 15-13 win.

A pair of Ladies recorded double-figure kills led by 13 from Kadidiatou Diawara. Desiree Frey added 12 kills in the five set effort along with 18 digs for a double for the freshman. Rachel Perkins joined Frey with a double-double in the contest dishing out 22 assists along with 16 digs in the match.

Haley Cubberly joined Frey and Perkins with double figure digs in the defensive effort as the freshman posted a team-best 22 while Lindsey Long added 12 for the Maroon and White.

In the second match, McMurry posted a difficult challenge for the Ladies claiming the three sets by a score of 25-9, 25-10 and 25-11.

Lindsey Bruce led the charge for the Maroon and White with five of the teams’ 14 kills in the contest. Bruce also tied for the team-lead in digs with five joining Bailey McDonald and Allison Lazewski. Lazewski also tallied 14 assists in the effort.

The final match of the day, Diawara and Long provided seven kills each to lead the squad offensively. Perkins recorded her second double-double of the day with 13 assists and 10 digs. Frey added 10 digs in the effort while Cubberly led the squad for the second time on the day with 11 digs.

Centenary closes out its 2014 season as the Ladies host Rust College on Monday, Nov. 10. Match is slated for 6 p.m.
