Gents second, Ladies fourth at Hendrix Classic

CONWAY, Ark. – The Centenary swimming teams competed in the 47th annual Hendrix Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Gents finished second in the Classic with 258 points while the Ladies finished fourth with 137 points.

Juan Tapia and Beau Montgomery helped lead the charge for the Maroon and White on the men’s side. Tapia picked up a second place finish in the men’s 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.20 and later logged a time of 2:23.34 in the 200-yard breaststroke to finish fourth in the event. Montgomery also logged a second place finish in the pool with a time of 22.57 in the 50-yard freestyle.

The duo made up half of the 400-yard medley relay squad, along with Cameron Brandao and Zack Harrison, which posted a time of 3:50.92 to finish third. Harrison also finished fourth in the 50-yard free with a time of 22.83 and fifth in the 100-yard free with a 49.90.

On the women’s side, Chelsea Russell finished second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:16.42 to capture 17 points for the Ladies. Russell also added a fifth place in the 200-yard free with a time of 2:05.81.

Anthony McDonald finished third in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.39 and fifth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.50. McDonald along with Erick Norem, Roberto Roig-Perez and Mason Kay finished fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:34.95. Roig-Perez also finished fifth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.92.

Alexandria Taylor logged a fifth place finish for the Ladies with a 11:47.67 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 8 as they host Hendrix College. The dual meet is slated for 1 p.m.
