SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary women’s basketball team opened the 2014-15 season with a 107-50 loss to the University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday afternoon in the Gold Dome.

Briana Edwards and Rebecca Thompson led the Ladies in scoring with 11 points. Edwards picked up where she left off last season as the Shreveport, La., native grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

The Maroon and White shot 27.1 percent from the field in the contest while UTT connected on half its shots including 41.4 percent from behind the arc. The Patriots turned 29 Centenary turnovers into 35 points in the outing.

Brittany King posted 21 points and 16 rebounds to lead Tyler while Michelle Obach added 20 points. The duo were a two of four players in double figures for the Blue and Orange as Makenzi May and Sabrina Catangal added 15 and 13 points respectively off the bench.

UTT, which out-rebounded the Ladies 52-34, held a 47-19 advantage at the half and reached its largest lead of 58 points with 12 seconds remaining in the contest.

Centenary returns to action on Monday, Nov. 17 as they host Louisiana College. Tip is slated for 5:30 p.m.
