MEMPHIS – Travion Kirkendoll scored a season-high 20 points to lead the Centenary men’s basketball team, but it wasn’t enough as the Gents (2-4) fell 92 -71 to No.8-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University in the final contest of the Rhodes hosted-Crowne Plaza Thanksgiving Classic.

Kirkendoll’s season-best comes one night after scoring a season-high against Rhodes. The Campti, La., native averaged a team-best 19 points in the Classic. The freshman was 54.5 percent from the field in the Classic including shooting a 60.0 clip from behind the arc over the two days.

James Sapp joined Kirkdendoll in scoring double figures with 12 points against IWU.  It marks the third straight contest in double digits for the Shongaloo, La., sophomore and his fourth this season. Sapp averaged 11.5 points for the Classic and was 10-of-13 from the floor.

Centenary shot 44.8 percent from the field in the setback including a 38.5 clip from behind the arc. The Gents connected 87.5 percent of their shots from the free-throw line – marking the second-best percentage this season.

The Titans out-rebounded the Maroon and White 45-18 in the contest and posted 27 second chance points en route to the win. The season-low in boards for Centenary led to only 7 second chance points.

IWU posted four players in double digits led by 21 from Trevor Seibring, who also grabbed a team-leading 10 rebounds. Bryce Dolan added 17 points. Ryan Coyle posted 14 points while Pat Sodemann rounded out the quartet with 12 points.

Centenary returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 2 as they travel to intra-city rival Louisiana State University-Shreveport. Tip is slated for 7:30 p.m.
