Scates claims all-around in Gymnastics season opener

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary gymnastics team opened its 2015 season with a score of 186.875, its best season-opening score since the 2010 season (188.500) against Texas Woman’s University. TWU won the dual meet with a 189.750. Allison Scates claimed the all-around crown for the Ladies as Ashley White took third.

Scates posted a 38.125 in the in the four events while White garnered a 37.825. Spencer Jones from Texas Woman’s finished second in the all-around with a 37.950.

Kellie Slated logged an event win for the Maroon and White with a 9.675 on the vault. Sylvia Keiter and Scates took second and third in the floor exercise for Centenary. Keiter posted a score of 9.625 while Scates added a 9.600 in the event.

Megan Desjardins tied with TWU’s Stephanie Repp for third on the balance beam with a score of 9.650. Spencer Jones claimed the event for the Pioneers with a 9.700 while Schyler Jones placed second with a 9.675.

White stood as the top finisher for the Ladies on bars as she tallied a score of 9.550 to finish tied for fourth. The Pioneers took the top three spots in event as Courtney Conchefski took the bars crown with a 9.800. Katie Simpson finished second with a 9.750 and Spencer Jones added a 9.600 for third. Repp tied with White for fourth in the event.

Jones claimed the title on floor exercise with a 9.650 for TWU while Kayla Jones finished second on vault with a 9.625. Mallory Moredock finished third in the event with a 9.600.

Centenary returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 18 as they compete at Illinois State. Meet time is set for 2 p.m.
