SHREVEPORT, La. – Briana Edwards posted her first career 20-point-20-rebound game of her career to lead the Centenary women’s basketball team, but the effort wasn’t enough to topple Schreiner University on Sunday afternoon as the Ladies fell 66-50.

Edwards garnered 21 points and 20 rebounds in the decision for her team-leading eighth double-double of the season. The 21 points is the second most for the Shreveport, La., native this season and while her 20 boards also sits second behind a 26 rebound effort against Elmira earlier this season.

Centenary trailed by eight early in the second half, but managed to chip away at the Mountaineers and cut the lead to 46-44 on a free-throw from Edwards with 8:50 remaining in the contest. SU answered with seven points to push the advantage back to nine points. The spark ignited a 20-6 run to close the contest for the Mountaineers as they grabbed their largest lead, 17 points, with 41 seconds remaining.

The Ladies finished the night with a season-best 33.3 percent from behind the arc and finished shooting 30.5 percent from the field in the effort. The squad was also 66.7 percent from the charity stripe.

The Maroon and White outrebounded SU 44-42 marking the third time this season the Ladies have held the advantage on the glass and the first time since Southwestern earlier this season.

Brooke Sanders led the Mountaineers with 24 points while Codi Simmons and Chistonna Jones added 12 and 11 points respectively off the bench.

Centenary returns to action on Friday, Feb. 6 as it travels to the University of Dallas. Tip is slated for 6 p.m.
