SSEGUIN, Texas – A Concordia (Texas) leadoff, homerun in the sixth inning proved the difference as the Centenary baseball team dropped a 4-3 affair to the Tornados on the campus of Texas Lutheran University on Saturday afternoon.

After the Maroon and White (1-2) had rallied back to knot the game at 3-all in the bottom of the third, Michael Evan’s homer broke the deadlock and led the Purple and Gold to the one-run victory.

The Gents amassed nine hits on the day as Cole Lavergne guided the offense going 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Christian Sebastien joined the sophomore with a multiple-hit performance going 2-for-4 with a RBI.

CTX jumped on the board early scoring three runs in the top of the second inning, but Centenary replied in the bottom of the frame with a pair of runs to nip the lead back to a run. Kody Carson plated the first run of the inning with a single to right center to score Khalen Simpson, who reached on an error. Lavergne, who singled earlier in the frame, scored later to pull within a run as Carson was erased trying to steal second base.

The Maroon and White knotted the game in home half of the third as Sebastien laced a RBI single down the right field line to score Chris Zapata, who reached on a bunt single.

Zapata, Aaron Quintanilla, Michael Schimpf and Carson combined for the remaining four hits for the Maroon and White as Carson collected the lone remaining RBI.

Michael Francis took the loss on the bump. Francis tossed a 1/3 of an inning while surrendering a run on two hits. Jake McFarland pitched 5.0 innings in the start allowing three runs – none of the earned - on three hits with four strikeouts. Cade Henry saw 3.2 innings of scoreless work with a pair of strikeouts.

Centenary returns to action on Friday, Feb. 13 as it travels to East Texas Baptist for a three-game, weekend series. First pitch on Friday is slated for 6 p.m.
