Gents fall 7-5 at ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas – The Centenary baseball dropped a 7-5 decision on the diamond on Friday evening at East Texas Baptist University, giving up three runs in the bottom of the eighth. The Gents move to 1-3 on the season while the Tigers improved to 2-2 on the campaign. Aaron Quintannilla paced the offensive attack with four hits and two RBI, including a two-run homerun in the sixth that placed the Maroon and White up 5-2. Cole Lavergne and Brooks Williams each added two hits to join Quintanilla with multiple hits in the decision. Grant Debevec (0-1) was saddled with the loss on the mound as he surrendered two runs on two hits in just 1/3 of an inning of work. Layton Tromba tossed 5.1 frames in the start as he allowed two runs on four hits. The Tigers knotted the contest at 5-all as Tyler Bates scored on an error. Derek Dane broke the tie with a triple that scored Ben Beltran. Matt Sullivan added the final run with a single that scored Dane. Matt Lefler (1-0) tossed 2.0 innings in the win as he allowed just a pair hits. Ashley Dukes pitched 5.2 innings in the start allowing five runs on six hits. Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 14 as it completes the three-game series with a doubleheader against the Tigers. First pitch of the twinbill is slated for 1 p.m.
