Gents drop pair to open the season

JACKSON, Miss. – The Centenary men’s tennis team opened the season with a pair of 9-0 losses at Belhaven University and Millsaps College.

In the opener with Belhaven, Centenary’s first points came in the top doubles position as Stafford Lyons and Zach Provenza fell 8-1 to Omar Lopez and Rene Ramos. Provenza also gained a point for the Gents in the singles’ third slot before falling 6-1, 6-0.

In the Millsaps match, the Gents dropped all three doubles points by an 8-0 score. Stafford Lyons garnered the Maroon and White’s only points in singles action. Lyons fell 6-2, 6-1 at the top singles’ slot to Charles Rees.

Centenary returns to action on Friday, Feb. 27 as it hosts Jacksonville College. Match time is slated for 4 p.m.
