SEGUIN, Texas – The Centenary baseball team split Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Texas Lutheran on Friday afternoon. The Gents claimed the opener 7-3 before falling 25-9 in the night cap.

The Maroon and White jumped on the board early in the opening game scoring five runs in the first inning. Aaron Quantanilla and Kody Carson each recorded RBI to jump start the scoring. Ian Graham laced a two-run RBI single to extend the Gents’ lead to 4-0. Cole Lavergne crossed the dish for the final run of the frame.

TLU answered with a run in the bottom of the first and gathered two runs in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-3, but Centenary answered with two runs in the seventh as Christian Sebastien scored on an error and Christ Zapata added a RBI single to ice the contest – his second hit of the game.

Holden Novak (2-0) garnered his second win of the season as hurler tossed a complete, seven innings. Novak fanned three and walked a pair while allowing one earned run.

In the second outing, the Gents ran into an offensive output that scored on 21 hits in just seven innings. Four Centenary errors assisted the Bulldogs prowess at the dish as the Gents sent seven hurlers to the mound.

Starter Grant Debevec (0-2) received the loss for the Maroon and White. Debevec allowed four runs – three earned – without allowing a hit. Kaleb Kirk tossed a game-long 1.2 innings in the decision allowing four runs – three earned – on five hits.

Centenary gathered 10 hits led by multiple hit efforts from Sebastien and Brooks Williams.

TLU took a 9-3 lead through the first three innings, but expanded its lead behind six-run, fourth and 10-run fifth.

The rubber match is scheduled for Noon on Saturday, Feb. 28.
