Tennis teams fall to Jacksonville College

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary tennis teams dropped outings to Jacksonville College on Friday afternoon. The Ladies fell 6-1 while the Gents were ousted 7-0.

The Ladies gathered their lone win in the top singles slot as the pairing of Katie Cornwell and Katelyn Alexander picked up a 9-7 victory over the team of Kara Chitty and Carolina Hernandez.

The team of Shelby Ferguson and Laura Beurlot fell 8-1 to JC’s Lenka Styblova and Olivia Longoria.

The Maroon and White dropped all five sets in singles play despite Alexander and Celia Sobleman forcing their singles matches to three sets. Alexander fell 6-3, 2-6, 11-9 to Longoria in the No.3 slot while Sobleman fell in the No. 5 spot 2-6, 6-2, 13-11.

On the men’s side, Stafford Lyons gathered the only point for the Gents in single action before falling Anru Fourie 6-0, 6-1.The remaining four slots in singles’ action dropped in straight sets. The two doubles matches were also decided in straight fashion 8-0.

Centenary returns to action on Friday, Mar. 6 against McMurry. Match time is slated for 4 p.m. at the Centenary Tennis Courts.
