Tennis teams fall to Schreiner

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary tennis teams dropped outings against Schreiner University on Saturday morning at the Centenary Tennis Courts. The Ladies fell 8-1 to the Mountaineers while the Gents dropped a 9-0 decision.

The Ladies logged their lone victory in the No. 3 singles’ position as Katelyn Alexander grabbed a 6-4, 6-1 win over Katie Watts. Centenary received strong efforts from the top five singles slots especially from the No. 2 slot as Katie Cornwell battled Kelsey Buczkowski before falling 6-4, 6-2.

Laura Beurlot fell 6-2, 6-1 in the top singles position with Shelby Ferguson at No.4 falling 6-1, 6-4 and Celia Sobleman rounding out the group at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-2 setback.

The Gents fell 8-0 in all three doubles matches on the day, but picked up strong efforts from Stafford Lyons, Andrew Borel and Erik Norem in singles’ play. Lyons dropped a 6-0, 6-1 outing in the top singles spot while Borel fell 6-1, 6-0 in the No.2 singles slot. Norem added a 6-2, 6-0 decision in the No. 4 position.

The Ladies return to action on Sunday, March 8 at 2 p.m. against LSU-Shreveport while the Gents’ next action is Tuesday, March 10 at Louisiana College.
