SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Centenary baseball rallied in the third contest of the weekend to force a Saturday, doubleheader split against No. 11 Trinity in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action. The Gents logged a 6-5 victory after falling 8-3 in the opener.

After trailing 5-2 through six innings, the Maroon and White rallied with a pair of runs in the seventh and eighth to notch its conference win of the season. Chris Zapata and Michael Schimpf scored in the seventh to narrow the lead to a run.

Zapata, who led the team with three hits in the outing, provided a RBI single to knot the contest at 5-all. Khalen Simpson placed the Gents in front for the first time since the fourth inning as he scored on a fielding error.

Matt Posey (1-0) gathered his first win of the season in a relief effort. Posey tossed 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball allowing just four hits with a strikeout and a walk in the effort. Taylor Henry (2) picked up the save, his second of the season, pitching the final 1.1 innings with a walk and strikeout.

After a 1-all tie after the first inning, TU logged a pair of runs in the second inning and singles in the third and fourth frames to distance itself from the Maroon and White early in the first game of the day.

Centenary narrowed the lead to 5-3 in the sixth as Schimpf and Aaron Quintanilla scored on groundouts, but the Tigers answered with a three spot in the bottom half of the inning to extend the lead and capture the win and the series.

Zapata paced the squad with three hits in the affair while Brooks Williams and Schimpf joined with multiple hit outs with two hits each.

Jake McFarland (1-1) took the loss on the mound in the start with 1.1 innings of work. McFarland allowed three runs – all earned – on six hits with a walk and strikeout.

Centenary returns to action on Friday, March 20 against Schreiner University. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
