Ladies finish ninth at West Region Invitational

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Centenary women’s golf team finished the Southwestern University-hosted West Region Invitational ninth with a team score of 729. The Ladies shot a 351 in the final round to improve their first round score by 27 strokes. Taylor Thompson paced the Maroon and White with a 164 for the tournament.

Thompson, who was the Ladies leader at the end of the opening day, shot a 79 in the final round to conclude the tournament tied for ninth. She opened the tournament with an 84 and was one stroke ahead of teammate Jamie Wright.

Wright joined Thompson with a 79 in the final round to capture a score of 164 for the two days. Wright finished tied for 12th.

Gabrielle Ford improved her round score by three strokes. Ford shot an 87 in the final round to tie her best round of the season and post her lowest final round of the year as she finished 34th.

Haley Nidey shot a 108 in the final round to improve her score from the previous day by 11 strokes. Nidey finished the tournament 43rd with a score of 227. Toni Collaro finished 34th with a score of 234 – her best tournament score of the season – while shooting a season-best round of 106. Collaro took 22 strokes off her score from the opening day.

The University of Texas at Tyler took the team crown with a score of 635. The Patriots Jordan Sloane led the individuals with a 155. Mary Hardin-Baylor finished second in the team standings with a 649 as McKenzie Ralston led UMHB with a 156 to finish tied for second with Southwestern’s Bernice Leonard. Trinity University finished third on the teams leaderboard with a 679.

Centenary returns to the links on April 20-21 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Blanco, Texas, at the Valeer Creek Golf Course.
