SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary baseball team locked up the outright Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship with an 8-0, series-clinching sweep of No. 30 Texas Lutheran University.

The Maroon and White, the top seed, hosts Southwestern University in the opening round of the Conference Championships. It marks the second time in three seasons that the Gents entered the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed.

The tournament host is the first for the program since 1990 – when Centenary was a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Four Gents recorded multiple hits in the outing led Ian Graham’s 3-for-4 effort. Aaron Quintanilla, Kody Carson and Brooks Williams each tallied two hits on the day with the trio driving in a combined six runs.

Kaleb Kirk (3-2) grabbed the win on the mound. The freshman hurler logged his first complete-game in the shutout effort. Kirk allowed just four hits on the day with four strikeouts.

Centenary struck early in the outing as the squad plastered six runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning. Carson, Williams, Michael Schimpf, Graham all delivered RBI for the Maroon and White. Quintanilla capped the scoring with a single up the middle to plate a pair.

The Gents added two runs in the bottom of the fifth as Carson launched a two-run, homerun to right center to score Quintanilla, who led off the inning with a single down the left field line.

First pitch against Southwestern on Friday, May 1 is slated for 12 p.m.
