SHREVEPORT, LA – Former Centenary College baseball player Seth Lugo continues his run of great starts on the mound for the N.Y. Mets Double-A squad, the Binghamton Mets.

On July 26, the former Gent and Bossier City native matched season highs in both strikeouts (eight) and innings pitched (seven) as Binghamton blanked the Trenton Thunder, 8-0. Lugo threw a season-high 109 pitches, 68 of which were for strikes (62.8 percent strikes). Lugo is 4-0 in his last four starts and has allowed only one earned run in 25 innings pitched for a 0.36 ERA with 26 strikeouts.

According to MiLB.com, Lugo’s success is thanks in part to development on his slider.

During his last four starts, Lugo’s ERA has dropped nearly a run from 4.17 to 3.20. In five total starts in the month of July, Lugo holds a 1.13 ERA and has allowed only four earned runs in 32 innings of work with the opposition batting a mere .183. This success in July comes on the heels of a tough June that saw Lugo post a 7.06 ERA.

With a stellar July, Lugo has moved up to sixth in the Eastern League in strikeouts (89) and 14th in ERA.
