METAIRIE, LA - A chance to play on the biggest stage against some of the best golfers in the world is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Centenary College head men’s and women’s golf coach Emlyn Aubrey may get a second chance at it.

Aubrey, who recently decided to reinstate his PGA of America status, finished sixth at the 2015 Gulf States Professional Championships. The tournament was held at the Contraband Bayou in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on August 17-18.

With the sixth-place finish, Aubrey qualifies for the 49th PGA Professional National Championship in June 2016 at Turning Stone Golf Club in Pennsylvania. If he finishes high enough at the National Championship, Aubrey would get a chance to play in the 2016 PGA Championship, the fourth and final major of the year.

“Choosing to reinstate my PGA of America status allowed me to participate in the regional Gulf States Section of the PGA tournaments,” explained Aubrey. “Being able to practice with the team during the school year and with the late afternoon, evening, and weekend golf this summer, I felt my game was at a level to give professional play a chance again. After six years away from competition, I was pleased with my performance at the Gulf States Section PGA Championship.”

Aubrey is no stranger to the professional ranks, having played on both the PGA and Nationwide (now the Web.com) tours. Between the two associations, he has participated in nearly 400 tournaments and has claimed Nationwide wins in both the 1993 NIKE Miami Valley Open and the 1998 NIKE Wichita Open. Aubrey golfed in seven PGA Tour majors, including the 1996 PGA Championship. He completed the tournament with his best major finish, tying for 24th.

Other tournament wins for Aubrey include the 1989 Philippine Open and the 1994 Indian Open. His best finish on the PGA Tour came at the 1995 Vancouver Open, finishing as runner-up by one stroke.

Aubrey is currently in his eighth season at the helm of the Centenary golf program. The Ladies kick off the 2015-16 season at the UT-Tyler Al Jones Memorial September 27-29 in Tyler, Texas. The Gents take part in the Paris Fall Invitational in Paris, Texas, September 20-21.
