Men’s cross country knocks off cross town rivals

TYLER, Texas – The Centenary College men’s cross country team took fourth of five teams at the King Campbell Spectacular, knocking off Shreveport rival LSU-Shreveport in dramatic fashion.

The women did not score.

Junior Gregory Simmons led the way for the Gents by finishing the two-mile course in 11:53.0 and took 31st. Freshman Stetson Carlile finished 12 seconds behind Simmons in 33rd. Classmate Paul Ahuwahlia finished 35th with a time of 12:21.0 while senior Kellen Bullock tied LSU-Shreveport by finishing 39th with a time of 12:32.0.

Tied after four runners, the battle of the two River City institutions came down to the very last runner. Senior Araash Ataei took all the drama out of the results, knocking off LSU Shreveport’s Michael Simon by more than 12 seconds as the Maroon and White ran past the Pilots.

On the women’s side, the Ladies took 29th-31st. Junior Kayla Evans led the trio by finishing the two-mile course in 18:09.0. Senior Emily Sexton crossed the line in 18:15.0 while classmate Daniela Rueles finished in 18:40.

The cross country teams return to action next Saturday, September 19, for the Mook 5 in Ruston, Louisiana.
