DALLAS, Texas – It may have been Friday the 13th, but the Ladies are all smiles after this night.

Three different players reached double figures, led by freshman Jasmine Morris with 21 points and eight boards, as the Justin LeBlanc head coaching-era got off to a rousing start as Centenary (1-0) knocked off Dallas Christian (1-2) 84-60 Friday night, November 13.

The Ladies scored the first five points of the game and 12-of-13 to jump out to a double-digit in the games’ first four minutes. Freshman Savanah Doty, who hit 4-of-6 shots beyond the arc in the first half, put the Maroon and White up for good with a three. Doty finished her first collegiate game with 20 points, hitting six triples on the night.

The Maroon and White surrendered two early offensive boards to Dallas Christian, but Centenary quickly recovered and won the battle of the boards, 43-32. The Ladies also used a 38-24 edge in points in the paint.

Centenary finished the game hitting 27-55 (49.1 percent) shooting from the field.

With Centenary up 5-1 two minutes into the game, senior Briana Edwards grabbed a pair of her own missed shots. On the third attempt, she put in the basket while being fouled. She missed the ensuing free throw, but sophomore Jessica Bruti cleared the miss as Centenary went up 9-1. Doty sandwiched a pair of threes around a Lady Crusaders jumper to push the Ladies advantage to double-digits for good.

Centenary used a 15-3 run to open the second quarter to push the lead to 22. Morris chipped in eight during the spurt, including a pair of old-fashioned threes.

Dallas Christian would not go way in the second half, giving the Ladies a taste of their own medicine with a trio of triples to cut the lead down to 45-31. However, a Lady Crusader miscued and a pass from Doty to Edwards led to a three the hard way for Centenary to stem the tide. Junior DeiAnna Hall added a jumper off an offensive rebound to push the lead back to 19.

Hall added a solid game with 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals for the Ladies.

Dallas Christian again cut the deficit to 13 on a pair of Shawntavia Maxwell layups, but a free throw, Hall layup and another Doty triple pushed the lead back to 19.

The Centenary advantage ballooned to 26 in the fourth quarter before the final 24-point margin.

Saporra Richard led Dallas Christian off the bench with 13 points. Alexandria Thorne added 10 points and six boards for the Lady Crusaders.

Although Centenary had one more turnover than Dallas Christian (21 miscues), the Ladies held a commanding 28-14 edge in points off turnovers.

With the win, Centenary snaps a 50-game losing streak dating back to February 2013.

The Ladies open up the Gold Dome Tuesday, November 17, when they welcome East Texas Baptist to Shreveport, Louisiana.
