SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies saw a double-digit lead evaporate in the fourth quarter, but the Majors could not overcome a strong end to the game by the home team as Centenary (2-1) handed Millsaps (2-1) its first loss of the season, 54-46, Saturday afternoon (November 21) in game two of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference/Southern Athletic Association classic.

The Maroon and White led by 12 early in the third, but Millsaps tied the game on a layup after two offensive rebounds with 6:33 left in the game. Centenary responded with a 10-2 run to close the contest. Sophomore Samantha Lyons hit a triple on a pass from classmate Jessica Bruti. After freshman Jamine Morris was whistled for an offensive foul, she atoned for the mistake when she forced a steal and went right to the hoop for a fastbreak layup.

Lyons split from the line and junior DeiAnna Hall added a jumper to cap nine unanswered to put Centenary up 53-44 with 2:38 left. Millsaps added a fastbreak layup with a minute left, but Hall split from the line for the final eight-point margin.

The Maroon and White held Millsaps to just 24.3 percent (17-70) shooting for the game, including 4-24 (16.7 percent) from distance. Meanwhile, the Ladies made 39.5 percent (17-43) of their shots. Senior Briana Edward notched her first double-double of the season with 18 boards and 13 points.

Freshman Sheridan Smith added a layup, Edwards split from the line and Gomez Gil hit a jumper to put the Ladies up 27-18 heading into halftime.

A 14-3 run by the Majors to end the third and into the fourth quarter tied the game at 44. Marissa Taylor split from the line and made a layup to end the third. Kala-Jewell Freeman begin the final quarter with a jumper off a fast break and a pair of free throws to cap seven straight for the visitors and cut the lead to four.
