LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Minutes went down, so it makes sense points went up, correct?

Sophomore Travion Kirkendoll scored a career-best 27 points on a season-low 31 minutes Sunday night en route to garnering Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors Monday, November 23. Those numbers bested his previous career-best set Saturday as he managed 26 points in only 34 minutes.

“We are excited about Travion’s fast start as he has put in the work to deserve the numbers that he is putting up right now,” said head coach Adam Walsh. “He showed flashes of what he is capable of a year ago, and he has matured as a player. We are on the same page when we talk about development, and he takes it one day at a time.”

The Gents swept the weekend, taking an 88-55 win on Saturday night (November 21) against Millsaps before erasing a 15-point deficit for an 88-80 win against Hendrix the following day. Centenary began the week by dropping its home opener to #25 East Texas Baptist on Tuesday, November 17, 72-61.

Combined with 20 points against the ranked Tigers, Kirkendoll finished the week with 73 points on 22-for-44 shooting (54.5 percent), including 8-for-17 (47.1 percent) from behind the arc. He overtook the conference lead in scoring, raising his average to 23.3 points per game for the season.

In Kirkendoll’s 27-point career high against Hendrix, he tallied 15 points in the first half alone, helping the Gents cut a 15-point deficit to just 39-32 at halftime. He recorded 12 points in the second half as Centenary opened up a lead as big as 18 against the Warriors before winning by eight.

“This is a nice honor for him, but I know Travion is most concerned with winning ball games,” added Walsh.

The Maroon and White return to action tomorrow when it makes a return trip to Hendrix. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
