LAWRENCVILLE, Ga. – For the second time in three weeks to begin the 2015-16 season, Centenary College freshman Jasmine Morris has been named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

“Obviously I am very proud of Jasmine,” said head coach Justin LeBlanc. “The level she is playing at this early on her career is a testament to her character and work ethic.”

Despite the individual accolades, coach LeBlanc is also quick to praise the entire team in its 65-50 win at McMurry Sunday, November 29. Centenaris 3-2 through five games in the young season for LeBlanc’s first season.

“More so, I am very proud of this team. They have all bought in to what we are trying to accomplish, and have embraced their roles to a point where accolades, such as this one, are team earned and appreciated,” added LeBlanc.

Morris scored a game-best 24 points on 10-for-14 shooting against McMurry, including hitting her only triple attempted in the contest. With the Ladies leading 10-9 with just 12 seconds left in the first quarter, she hit a layup while despite contact and made the ensuing free throw. After a Maroon and White steal, Morris beat the buzzer with the jumper to catapult Centenary to a 15-9 lead.

After a seven-point first quarter, Morris hit both shots taken from the field – including a three – and went 1-for-2 from the line in the second quarter as Centenary led 31-17 heading into halftime. The Ladies led by double-digits for all but a minute in the second half, pushing the lead to as much as 20 in the fourth quarter.

Morris leads the SCAC and is 48th in the nation with 20 points per game. She is also 122nd in NCAA Division III by hitting 50 percent of her shots from the field through five games. This season, she has 21+ points in four of five contests.

Centenary returns to action at Millsaps on Sunday, December 6. Tip off in Jackson, Mississippi, is set for 3 p.m.
