JACKSON, Miss. – The Ladies took an early six-point lead, but the Blazers outscored the visitors in each of the final three quarters as Centenary (3-4) fell to Belhaven (1-4) 62-55 Monday night, December 7.

Senior Rebecca Thompson, who managed a team-best 13 rebounds in her first start of the season, began the game with a jumper. After Belhaven answered with a jumper, freshman Jasmine Morris hit a jumper and junior DeiAnna Hall split from the line. Sophomore Samantha Lyons followed with a three to give the Ladies an 8-2 lead with 6:19 left in the first quarter.

Millsaps went on an 8-1 run to take its first lead, but Morris hit 3-of-4 from the charity stripe to end the first and give Centenary a 12-10 lead after one. Morris scored a game-best 18 points and also had six rebounds and four assists.

Except for late in the second quarter, neither team managed more than a three-point lead until the last minute of the game. Both teams shot bless than 30 percent in a game that was tied nine times and featured 19 lead changes.

Belhaven managed a five-point lead with 1:23 left until halftime, but senior Linda Gomez Gil hit both from the line and Morris split to cut the deficit to 23-21 at break.

Tied at 51 with 1:33 left, Chandler Gregory hit a triple to put the home team in the lead for good. After an offensive foul, Sierra Pittman split from the line. Senior Briana Edwards countered with a layup for the Maroon and White, but Kandice Sims grabbed an offensive board and made the two free throws to put the home team back up four. Ieshia Dixon then hit a pair from the line to push the deficit to seven with 15 seconds left. Edwards hit a putback, but Jasmine Brown hit a pair of free throws for the final 62-55 score.

Brown led Belhaven with 15 points while Pittman came off the bench for 11 points, five assists and six steals.

Centenary returns to action Thursday when it travels to Southwestern Adventist. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
