KEENE, Texas – Everyone that played scored and grabbed a rebound as Centenary (4-4) evened its record with a 78-38 victory at Southwestern Adventist Thursday night, December 10.

Freshman Jasmine Morris led the Maroon and White with 12 points in only 17 minutes played. Classmate Savanah Doty added 10 points while freshman Courtney Mills came off the bench for 10 rebounds. Senior Briana Edwards chipped in with four of the teams’ eight blocks.

Centenary committed a season-low nine turnovers while forcing 24 Knights’ miscues, outscoring the home team 24-4 in that category. The 16 steals pilfered by the Ladies are the most in three seasons.

Freshman Erin Temple added six dimes against only one turnover.

Both teams traded baskets to begin the game before Centenary scored 11 unanswered and Southwestern Adventist was held scoreless for five minutes in the first. Morris split from the line and junior DeiAnna Hall forced a turnover and went right to the hoop. Doty split from the line before Temple drained a three to push the advantage to three. Senior Rebecca Thompson finished with a jumper as the Ladies led 13-2 with 4:23 left in the first quarter.

The Maroon and White held the Knights scoreless for the final five minutes of the half and pushed the lead to more than 20. Up 33-17, Mills hit a layup and Thompson hit a jumper. Senior Linda Gomez Gil split from the line and Mills added a layup to push the advantage to 40-23. Neither team scored in the final minute before half.

Eight-straight close the third and a pair of Gomez’s baskets to begin the fourth quarter pushed the lead to more than 40. Freshman Sheridan Smith nailed a triple with 3:52 left in the third before both teams went scoreless the next three minutes. Sophomore Jessica Bruti added a three to close the third.

Senior Lindsey Bruce grabbed a pair of defensive boards and hit Gomez in stride for a pair of baskets to begin the fourth.

The lead ballooned to 47, but Southwestern Adventist scored seven straight to end the game in the final two minutes. Illiana Castillo, who led the Knights with 15 points, hit a triple. Silvia Bernard hit a pair from the charity stripe before Navimayr Lopez hit a fastbreak jumper to cut the lead to the final 40 points.

Southwestern Adventist wwas held to only 26.2 percent (16-61) shooting from the field.

Centenary takes more than a week off before taking on Crowley’s Ridge December 19 at 1 p.m.
