Season Best Scores Leads Ladies Gymnastics in Home Opener against SE Missouri State

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies posted season best scores in every event, while senior Megan Desjardins, sophomore Ashley White and freshman Navia Jordan each claimed event wins on the night, as Centenary fell to Southeast Missouri State 193.225-190.425 in Midwest Independent Conference gymnastic s action Friday night, January 22.

The 190.425 total makes the Maroon and White the first NCAA Division III gymnastics squad to break 190 in 2016, besting the second best team total by 1.5 points.

White led Centenary with a win on bars, a second on floor and a third in the all-around. She finished in a three-way tie with Alexis Brawner and McKenna Stanley of the Redhawks with a 9.775. White matched a career high with a 9.8 on floor, capping the best event of the night for the Ladies. White recorded a 37.925 in the all-around to take third.

Desjardins and Jordan both claimed top honors on beam with Lauren Israel of Southeast Missouri State. On the event, Jordan earned a 9.8 from the first judge and a 9.65 from the other, recording the highest single score on the event. Desjardins anchored the event, pushing the Ladies to a 47 total on the apparatus.

Seniors Kellie Slater and Noel Stubbs finished second and third, with a 9.600 and 9.550, respectively, on vault. The Ladies turned in a 47.350 total on the event.

Despite only five competitors in the lineup, the Maroon and White were able to score build to a season best 48.425 on floor. Senior Stephanie Strickler and Dersjardins both finished with a 9.600 to begin the event. Jordan turned in a 9.700 and finished sixth for the competion, followed by Slater’s 9.725 to finish fourth. The last competitor of the night for the Ladies, White capped the event with a 9.800.

Centenary has a short turnaround as the Ladies travel to Texas Woman’s on Sunday, January 24. Besides the host Pioneers, the Maroon and White also take on Southeast Missouri State and Air Force.
