Centenary Sweeps MIC Gymnast, Specialist of the Week Awards

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Centenary gymnastics team claimed both Gymnast and Specialist of the Week honors, announced the Midwest Independent Conference Tuesday, January 26. Sophomore Ashley White won gymnast honors while freshman Navia Jordan took specialist honors.

As a team, the Ladies upped their season-high team scores in each meet, finishing with a 190.425 against Southeast Missouri State on Friday and a 190.525 at the Texas Woman’s quad on Sunday.

After her first event of the weekend, White came up huge for the Ladies with three event wins and four other top-3 finishes. She swept bars in both competitions, setting a season high on Friday (9.775) and a career best on Sunday (9.85). White also matched a career best with a 9.8 on floor Friday night to finish second and also had season bests on vault (9.700), beam (9.625), and in the all-around (38.925) Sunday.

White claimed the all-around by more than a tenth of a point at the Texas Woman’s quad.

Jordan continues a great start to her collegiate career, having recorded new career highs on beam and floor each competition thus far in 2016. In her first time competing on beam Friday, Jordan turned in a 9.725 to pick up her first collegiate event win. She improved her beam score to 9.775 on Sunday to finish second among 24 competitors.

Jordan also placed fourth on floor at Texas Woman’s, receiving a 9.725.

The Maroon and White knocked off Air Force Sunday for its first win of the season and stake claim to the top spot among all NCAA Division III gymnastic teams.

The gymnastic team returns to action this weekend for a pair of meets in Pennsylvania. The Ladies travel to West Chester to take on the Golden Rams, Ursinus and Temple Friday, January 26. Meet time is set for 5 p.m. CST (6 p.m. in Pennsylvania).
