SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies jumped out to an 8-2 advantage early, but eight unanswered by the ‘Roos to end the first vaulted the visitors in to the lead for good as Centenary (7-14, 2-9 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Austin College (13-7, 7-3 SCAC) 84-64 in basketball action Friday night, February 5, at the Gold Dome.

The visitors struck first in the game, but freshman Jasmine Morris tied the game with a layup. Junior Linda Gomez Gil added s pair of free throws, and Morris and senior Briana Edwards split the defense for layups as Centenary raced out to an 8-2 advantage.

Edwards led all Centenary scorers with 20 points, adding 11 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. She also registered four blocks, marking her sixth-straight game with at least two rejections. Her 59 blocks this season also ties her for second in all-time single season blocks in Ladies history.

With Centenary clinging to a 16-15 lead, Austin College ended the first quarter with eight unanswered to take the lead for good. Bryce Frank hit a jumper, with Kelly Lynch making a jumper and layup. Frank finished with a fastbreak layup off a defensive board. She came off the bench for 12 points.

The visitors were led by Kali Vitallo with 21 points and 7-for-9 (77.8 percent) shooting from the field, including 5-for-7 (71.4 percent) from three.

Centenary returns to action Sunday against Dallas. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. Fans are reminded that admission will be free and fans are encouraged to travel to the Gold Dome from Youree Drive to Kings Highway to Woodlawn Avenue.
