KERRVILLE, Texas – The Ladies were able to cut the deficit to single-digits on several occasions, but the Mountaineers were able to pull away in the fourth quarter as Centenary (8-15, 3-10 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Schreiner (10-12, 8-4 SCAC) 78-55 in Kerrville, Texas, Friday night, February 12.

Down 40-23 in the third, Centenary used a 12-2 run to cut the deficit to single digits. Junior DeiAnna Hall started the spurt with a layup, but neither team scored for more than two minutes. The points then came in bunches for the Ladies, starting with a jumper by senior Briana Edwards and a fastbreak layup by Hall. Sophomore Samantha Lyons completed an old-fashioned three to cut the deficit to eight. Schreiner answered with a jumper, but freshman Jasmine Morris used another three-point play to cut it to seven.

Centenary trailed 42-35 with 2:47 left in the third, but the Maroon and White came no closer in the second half. Lyons led the team with 19 points, while Morris chipped in 10. Schreiner used a 57-33 edge on the glass, including 26-5 on the offensive end.

The Mountaineers held an 18-6 edge in points in the paint.

Centenary jumped out to a 9-3 edge early. Down 3-2, Edwards made a layup and Morris split from the line. Lyons followed with a layup and jumper to put Centenary up by six less than three minutes into the game.

Schreiner answered with 13 unanswered of its own. Cassandra Aleman and Sabriyyah Fennell both hit jumpers and a Tylor Rambeau layup off an offensive board tied the game. Chris Jones hit a jumper and three, while Kelsie Jackson capped the run with a layup after three offensive rebounds.

Schreiner outscored Centenary 27-16 in the final quarter to pull away for the 23-point win. Alina Hilliard came off the bench for 14 points while Aleman added 12 for the Mountaineers.

Centenary closes out SCAC play tomorrow at Trinity. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
